1. Casino Royale - Published in 1953

Although it appeared as movie in 1967, this was never an official James Bond film, but a spoof.  Billed as "Charles K. Feldman's Casino Royale" starring David Niven as James Bond, Woody Allen as Jimmy Bond, Ursula Andress as the Bond Girl.

2.  Live & Let Die - Published in 1954

The eighth James Bond film starred Roger Moore as James Bond [his first appearance in the role], Jane Seymour as the Bond Girl and Yaphet Kotto as the villain, Mr. Big.   It opened in 1973.

3.  Moonraker - Published in 1955

This was the eleventh James Bond film.  Opening in 1979, it starred Roger Moore as James Bond, Lois Chiles as the Bond Girl, Michel Lonsdale as the villain, Drax and Richard Kiel as Jaws.

4.  Diamonds Are Forever - Published in 1956

In the seventh film Sean Connery starred as James Bond, with Jill St. John and Lana Wood as the Bond Girls and Charles Gray as the villain, Ernst Stavro Blofeld.  Directed by Guy Hamilton, it opened in 1971.

5.  From Russia With Love - Published in 1957

This ended up as the second James Bond movie, starring Sean Connery as James Bond, Daniela Bianchi as the Bond Girl and Robert Shaw and Lotte Lenya as the villains.  It was directed by Terence Young.

6.  Dr. No - Published in 1958

This was made into the first James Bond film, which opened in the U.S. in 1963.  Directed by Terence Young, it starred a young Sean Connery as James Bond, Ursula Andress as the Bond Girl and Joseph Wiseman as the villain, Dr. No.

7.  Goldfinger - Published in 1959

In the third  James Bond film , Sean Connery again starred as James Bond, with Honor Blackman, Tania Mallet and Shirley Eaton as the Bond Girls, Gert Frobe as the villain, Auric Goldfinger, and Harold Sakata as the henchman Oddjob. Goldfinger was directed by Guy Hamilton.

8.  For Your Eyes Only - Published in 1960

This book contained four short stories: From a View to a Kill, For Your Eyes Only, Quantum of Solace, Risico and The Hildebrand Rarity.

For Your Eyes Only was the twelfth James Bond film, starring Roger Moore.  Carole Bouquet, Lynn Holly Johnson and Cassandra Harris (Mrs. Pierce Brosnan) were the Bond Girls and Julian Glover was the villain, Kristatos.  It debuted in 1981.

From A View to A Kill became the fourteenth James Bond film, opening in 1985.  It starred Roger Moore in his last appearance as James Bond, with Tanya Roberts as the Bond Girl, Christopher Walken as the villain, Max Zorin, and Grace Jones as henchwoman May Day.

9.  Thunderball - Published in 1961

Starring Sean Connery as James Bond, Claudine Auger and Luciana Paluzzi as the Bond Girls and Adolfo Celi as the villain, Largo; the fourth James Bond movie was directed by Terence Young.

9. The Spy Who Loved Me - Published in 1962

Starring Roger Moore as James Bond, Barbara Bach as the Bond Girl, Curt Jurgens as the villain, Stromberg and Richard Kiel as Jaws; the tenth Bond film opened in 1977.

11. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service - Published in 1963

Starring George Lazenby in his only appearance as James Bond, Diana Rigg as the Bond Girl (and Mrs. James Bond) and Telly Savalas as the villain, Ernst Stavro Blofeld; the sixth James Bond film, directed by Peter Hunt, opened in December, 1969.

12. You Only Live Twice - Published in 1964

The fifth James Bond film debuted in 1967.  Starring Sean Connery as James Bond, Akiko Wakabayashi and Mie Hama as the Bond Girls and Donald Pleasence as the villain, Blofeld; it was directed by Lewis Gilbert.

13. The Man With the Golden Gun - Published in 1965

The Man with the Golden Gun opened in 1974.  It was the ninth Bond film and it starred Roger Moore as James Bond, Britt Ekland and Maud Adams as the Bond Girls and Christopher Lee as the villain, Scaramanga.

14. Octopussy and The Living Daylights - Published in 1966

These two stories were included in the original publication. A third - The Property of a Lady - was in the paperback edition.

Octopussy appeared as the thirteenth James Bond film.  Starring Roger Moore as James Bond, Maud Adams and Kristina Wayborn as the Bond Girls and Louis Jourdan as the villain, Kamal, it opened in 1983.

The Living Daylights, the fifteenth James Bond film, starred Timothy Dalton in his first outing as Bond, Maryam D'Abo as the Bond Girl and Joe Don Baker as the villain, Whitaker.   It opened in 1987.

 

 

Other Bond Movies

License to Kill  - Novelization by John E. Gardener

The sixteenth James Bond film with Timothy Dalton as James Bond, Carey Lowell and Talisa Soto as the Bond Girls and Robert Davi as the villain, Sanchez.  This film opened in the U.S. in 1989.

GoldenEye - Novelization by John E. Gardener

In the seventeenth Bond film, Pierce Brosnan starred as James Bond, Izabella Scorupco and Famke Janssen as the Bond Girls and Sean Bean as the villain, Alec Trevelyan.   The movie opened in 1995.

Tomorrow Never Dies - Novelization by Raymond Benson

1997 saw the debut of the eighteenth official James Bond film, starring Pierce Brosnan as 007, Michelle Yeoh and Teri Hatcher as the "Bond Girls" and Jonathan Pryce as the megalomaniac villain.

The World is Not Enough - Novelization by Raymond Benson

This movie opened in November, 1999.  It is the nineteenth James Bond film. Starring Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, Robert Carlyle as the villain Renard, Sophie Marceau as Elektra King, Denise Richards as Dr. Christmas Jones, Serena Scott Thomas as Dr. Holly Warmflash, Robbie Coltrane as Valentin Zukovsky and John Cleese as Q's asst. Returning are Judi Dench as "M", Samantha Bond as Moneypenny, Desmond Llewellyn as "Q". Also featured are Ulrich Thomsen, Goldie, Maria Grazia Cuccinotta. The film is directed by Michael Apted.

Die Another Day - Novelization by Raymond Benson

This movie opened in November, 2002.  It is the 20th James Bond film and the fourth starring Pierce Brosnan as James Bond.  Halle Berry is his co-star.  The villians are played by Toby Stephens and Rick Yune in this movie directed by Lee Tamahori
