The Aventine is a mixed use (office and hotel) complex located just off Route 5 north of San Diego and east of La Jolla.  Its design, by Michael Graves, began in 1985.  The project was completed in 1990.

The development consists of a 400-room Hyatt hotel, a 225,000-square-foot office building, a health club with outdoor swimming pool, five restaurants and extensive underground parking. The buildings are situated to take advantage of the southern view and to allow sunlight into the central recreational areas. Although the individual buildings have their own identities, the commonality of architectural language, coloration, and materials allows The Aventine to be perceived as a unified ensemble.
